Maine Antique Digest | Triple Portrait Sells for $15000 Maine Antique Digest “We're delighted,” said Michael Payne. He explained that after viewing the work under ultraviolet light and going home and researching, “We recognized the three children as a painting by I. Gilbert. A multiple-figure painting by him has never been seen. |
Sorry, I did indeed use the word 'delighted' in my conversation. Our realization of the who the correct artist is and understanding that a triple portrait by him had not previous been seen was terrific voyage of discovery prior to the auction. Then we were indeed able to purchase the portrait! Perhaps one of the objects in life is to find things/events/thoughts that delights one and one's soul. While typing this, I am looking at this portrait which continues to makes me smile! Now, will our future research allow us to identify the names of the children? Regards- Michael R. Payne
